About the Lawyer

Dra. Ana Paula Caldwell

500+ Cases Completed

Hello, I am Dra. Ana Paula Caldwell. I have dual nationality, Brazilian and Portuguese, and I am a lawyer specialized in Portuguese citizenship.

I am a master's student in European Union Law at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal), I graduated in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ), and I am registered with the Brazilian Bar Association under no. 214.698 (OAB/RJ) and with the Portuguese Bar Association under no. 61214P.

In addition to my law degree, I also have a degree in Advertising.

I have always had a great curiosity about everything that connects the world. At Advertising school I learned how globalization brought places that were once so distant closer together through products and brands, and when I entered law school, my interest in this subject grew more and more, as I was able to study how Law and Justice shaped human relations as this global interaction grew.

So, when I had the opportunity to live in Portugal, I knew it would be a door to Europe, to explore the world and all the diversity and interaction that this includes.

This is how Conecta Fronteiras was born. With the goal of helping people cross borders and thus explore the world! Here, legal services are simple and accessible to everyone. Welcome!

There is a stipulated deadline of up to 90 days for the Civil Registry Offices to analyze the process, but this is not what has been happening in practice for some years. Therefore, I present below estimated timeframes, according to what is currently observed. In some situations, such as serious health cases, it is possible to try an urgent request. It is also possible to try the legal route, due to non-compliance with the deadline.

In any case, filing the citizenship process directly in Portugal is the fastest way to obtain Portuguese citizenship. In practice, if your grandfather or grandmother is alive and is the child of a Portuguese citizen, or if your father or mother is alive and is the grandchild of a Portuguese citizen, it is possible to obtain Portuguese citizenship for one of these generations of living ascendants first and then obtain yours as the grandchild or child of a Portuguese citizen.

You can obtain Portuguese citizenship after 3 years of marriage or civil union if you present documents proving a connection to the Portuguese community, or after 6 years if you have no connection to the Portuguese community.
